BCycle E-Bike Share Program
In June 2023, the Town of Truckee, in partnership with BCycle LLC., launched a town-wide pedal assist electric bike share program served by a variety of conveniently located docking stations or "mobility hubs" where locals, visitors, and commuters can rent bikes to meet their daily travel needs. The bike share program returned in May 2024 and is now in full swing! This program is intended to support community goals focused on promoting environmentally sustainable transportation options that improve mobility, enhancing resident quality of life and visitor experience, and supporting economic vitality while reducing impacts on our natural environment.

Tips & Tricks to Support a Good Time
E-bikes are a great option when it comes to traveling on the road or our paved trails for commuting, fun, or exercise. Not only can you get to your destination faster, but you can also travel farther than you would be able to on a regular bike - all while reducing your impact on the environment. Whether you've been cycling for years, or this is your first time on a bike since middle school, electric and electric-assist bikes make any ride easy to conquer and enjoy! Following these few steps can make your e-bike trip even more seamless.
- Make sure to observe local traffic signs, signals, and laws at all times.
- Ride your bike in the bike lanes, on bike paths or on the street when needed. Never ride against traffic.
- Signal your next move. If you are turning, point in the direction you are going using hand signals. This helps cars and other cyclists understand your intentions.
- Walk your bike on the sidewalk. It's called a sidewalk for a reason.
- E-bikes can go faster than a regular bicycle, but when riding around cars, other bikes, and pedestrians be courteous and keep your speed in check and always follow the posted speed limit. When passing other bicyclists and pedestrians on the road, use a bell and let the person know you are passing in a friendly voice.
Visit one of our many wonderful shops in Truckee to purchase a new helmet for all members of your group or family. If you plan on taking one of the Town e-bikes, please remember to bring your own helmet or visit a shop to purchase or see if there is an option to rent.
- Make sure to check the brakes, tires, and front/rear lights before riding.
- Most bike seats are easily adjustable. Just open the clamp on the seat post, lower or raise your seat, and close the clamp again.
- Do not abuse the bike - whether the bike is your own, BCycles, or a rental, e-bikes are expensive and require specialized parts and maintenance and should be treated with care and respect.
- The BCycle e-bikes available through the Town's E-bike Share Program are intended for paved trail and roadway use. If you are looking for an electric assist mountain bike to ride on dirt mountain bike trails, please visit one of our many local shops to inquire about selection and reserve a rental to fit your off-road needs.
Let's face it; some roads are just better for cycling than others. Make sure you know your go-to routes, so you don't have to rely on your phone or a map while you are on your way into work or out for a spin. Not only can you avoid the high-traffic areas, you can also take note of those steep hills!
